  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. In the same pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add marinated beef strips and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over seared beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Return sautéed onions to the pan and stir to combine before serving hot over steamed rice or noodles.
