  • 1 large round loaf of crusty bread (sourdough works great)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper until combined.
  3. Make diagonal cuts in the bread about 1 inch apart without cutting all the way through.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture between the cuts and add cheese if desired.
  5. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
